Rangers Lead the WayPointe-du-Hoc D-Day 1944 In the early hours of D-Day a group from the US Army 2nd Ranger Battalion was sent to scale the cliffs overlooking Omaha Beach. Their mission was to destroy the artillery battery overlooking the beach. But, after climbing the cliffs under heavy German fire and securing the battery site, the Rangers discovered that the guns had been moved into a firing position overlooking Utah Beach. Showing outstanding bravery, the Rangers located and destroyed the guns, saving countless lives in the process. |
