Rangers Lead the Way

Pointe-du-Hoc D-Day 1944

In the early hours of D-Day a group from the US Army 2nd Ranger Battalion was sent to scale the cliffs overlooking Omaha Beach. Their mission was to destroy the artillery battery overlooking the beach. But, after climbing the cliffs under heavy German fire and securing the battery site, the Rangers discovered that the guns had been moved into a firing position overlooking Utah Beach. Showing outstanding bravery, the Rangers located and destroyed the guns, saving countless lives in the process.
In the first of a brand new Osprey series, this act of daring is brought to life, complete with stunning artwork, detailed maps and rare German accounts. Taking a closer, more critical look at a famous story, Steven J Zaloga analyses every detail of the raid from initial intelligence failures through to the final mission success.
